The Force Options Training (FOT) unit coordinates and conducts training that focuses on skills such as firearms, electrical weapons (Taser), pepper spray, defensive tactics, and field training for all sworn officers. All courses incorporate concepts such as legalities and authority, Agency policy, de-escalation, and decision-making under stress. FOT is responsible for ensuring all officers meet the standards required by the Agency, state, and Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). The Agency’s Safety Officer and Field Training Officer are assigned to the FOT unit. The agency Safety Officer ensures compliance with the Cal/OSHA program guidelines, rules, and regulations designed to keep the workplace safe. The Field Training Officer is responsible for delivering training, evaluating officer’s proficiency, and coaching to improve performance.
