Michelle Steinberger was born and raised in Ventura. She is a graduate of Buena High School, Ventura College, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, Criminology, and Corrections from California State University-Northridge in 1997.
Michelle joined the Probation Agency as a Deputy Probation Officer in 1989. She was promoted to Senior Deputy Probation Officer in 1996 and to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer in 1999. She has experience in Adult and Juvenile Investigations, Field Supervision, Adult and Juvenile Intensive Supervision Services, and Juvenile Institutions.
In addition, she is a state expert in sex offender assessment and supervision and was appointed by State Assembly Speaker John Perez as the probation officer representative on the Sex Offender Management Board. She has trained hundreds of probation officers statewide on the latest legislation, mandates, and practices in sex offender assessment and supervision. She is also a board member with the California Coalition on Sexual Offending (CCOSO) and has co-chaired the organization’s annual conference for the last several years. She was awarded 2010 Agency Instructor of the Year, 2008 Supervising Deputy Probation Officer of the Year, and 1996 Deputy Probation Officer of the Year.
